Met het nieuwe album ‘Hedges Against The Night’ lanceert The New Shining een sterk vervolg op hun debuutalbum uit 2008.
The New Shining ontstond in de zomer van 2006. De drie leden van de band, Nax (vocals en gitaar), R (bass en backing vox) en Vince (drums), speelden echter al zo'n 10 jaar met elkaar in diverse bands. In 2006 werd besloten met z'n drieën verder te gaan onder een andere naam. Naast gitaar nam Nax nu ook voor het eerst de zang voor zijn rekening. Het bleek een gouden greep te zijn. Voor het eerst leek alles te kloppen.
Na het uitbrengen van ‘Supernatural Showdown' in 2008 is de band alweer snel aan het schrijven geslagen. Met ‘Hedges Against The Night' weet The New Shining een nog completer album te creëren met compactere songs en een betere sound. Energie en emotie zijn dé belangrijke elementen in de muziek van The New Shining. Ondanks dat je hun muziek snel als rock zou classificeren, is er zoveel pop en melodie in terug te vinden, dat de muziek zich moeilijk een naam laat geven.
Wanneer je als band een muur van geluid opzet en dan ook gebruik maakt van veel melodieën, loop je het risico een overvolle productie te krijgen. "We zochten iemand die al die muzikale informatie in een transparante sound zou kunnen passen". Bij het zoeken naar de juiste man hiervoor, kwam The New Shining al snel in een luxe positie. Een aantal grote producers bleek namelijk bereid om deze klus te klaren. Toen echter Erwin Musper (van o.a. Bon Jovi, Metallica, Anouk) uit eigen beweging contact opnam met de band en zijn enthousiasme uitsprak over de songs en bovendien met een helder plan van aanpak kwam, was de keuze snel gemaakt. De band vertrok naar Amerika en dook daar de studio in. De sfeer tijdens de opnames was enorm goed en dat is duidelijk terug te horen op het album: puur spelplezier. "Erwin stond garant voor een goede sound en een gestructureerd opnameproces zodat wij ons geconcentreerd op de instrumenten konden storten. Het blijkt dan toch een enorm voordeel te zijn als je ver van huis en beslommeringen bent"
